Collections Manager

Summary

Plans and directs activities within the collections department by performing the following duties, personally or through delegation to subordinates.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assist in the development and implementation of goals, policies, priorities, and procedures relating to collections.

Reviews delinquent account records to determine which customers must be contacted for collection of overdue accounts.

Writes letters or approves form letters for use in collection attempts.

Authorizes or refers accounts to Manager for repossession and legal actions against debtors.

Assist collectors with collection activities in difficult cases.

Determines work procedures prepare work schedules and expedite workflow.

Supervises and participates in the preparation of various collection reports.

Assess needs and controls departmental expenditures in line with budget.

Assists in establishing controls and develops procedures to improve existing systems and/or processes.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervises employees in the collections department. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree or equivalent; or four to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
