A growing body of literature suggests that outdoor time and daylight are protective against myopia development and its progression in children.2-6 Professor Dennis Tse, Associate Professor of the School of Optometry at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, presented new evidence from epidemiological studies and animal studies that explain the biological mechanisms underlying the protective effect of outdoor time and daylight against myopia development and its progression, as well as explored the effects of high light intensity and optical defocus.
Dr. Pavan Verkicharla, Scientist – Myopia Research Head, The Myopia Centre (prevention & control) at LV Prasad Eye Institute, India, highlighted the role of combination treatment strategies for controlling axial length growth – the recommended primary goal of the clinical trials for myopia management7– and discussed key considerations to achieve the desired treatment outcomes.
