The innovation from HOYA Vision Care is perfectly timed for the academic year for kids around the world and complements the launch of their MiYOSMART brand’s latest campaign “Open their World.”
6th October 2025 - HOYA Vision Care today announced the global roll-out of the MiYOSMART Coating Smooth Touch Xtreme (STX) spectacle lens coating technology. This technology is now available for use on MiYOSMART* spectacle lenses - a clinically proven solution for myopia control.¹ MiYOSMART Coating STX is an advanced hydrophobic technology that helps MiYOSMART spectacle lenses stay cleaner for longer - enhancing clarity and reducing the need for frequent cleaning. This enhancement provides smudge resistance and remains easy to clean even after 2.7 years of typical use.²
Children are naturally curious and constantly on the move - from climbing playground structures to exploring the outdoors, and everything in between. The new MiYOSMART Coating STX now more effectively repels water, fingerprints, dirt and grease, meeting demands of active play, sports, and hands-on learning essential for healthy development. ² Its advanced hydrophobic system helps keep spectacle lenses cleaner for longer, with water repellence that is up to five times better than the previous generation.² Purposefully designed for children's active lifestyles built to withstand daily play, meals and frequent handling that can stain spectacle lenses while supporting essential outdoor time shown to help delay the onset and slow the progression of myopia.³
“Children deserve vision solutions that support their active, everyday lives,” said Silvano Larcher, Global Head of Category Management at HOYA Vision Care, “With MiYOSMART spectacle lenses now able to endure up to 8,000 wipes for over 2.7 years, the new HOYA STX technology launched in MiYOSMART spectacle lenses ensures long-lasting cleanliness and consistently clearer vision, giving parents peace of mind whether in the classroom, on the playground, or while participating in after-school activities.”2
Despite the growing global prevalence of myopia, with an estimated five billion thought to be affected by 2050, many parents remain unaware of the long-term risks and the significant benefits that early intervention can provide in managing their child's myopia progression.⁴ MiYOSMART Coating STX started its global roll-out from September 2025. To complement the launch, the awareness campaign “Open Their World” has also been introduced. This campaign draws on MiYOSMART’s extensive clinical evidence, combined with emotional storytelling to help Eye Care Professionals (ECPs) confidently communicate the importance of eye care to families during the ongoing school period.
“For over 60 years, HOYA Vision Care has been at the forefront of spectacle lens coating technologies. With the introduction of our most advanced STX technology, now available with our proven MiYOSMART spectacle lenses, we’re giving children the freedom to simply be kids: to play, explore, and discover the world without limits,” said John Goltermann Lassen, CEO of HOYA Vision Care. “Through the launch of MiYOSMART Coating STX together with our ‘Open Their World’ campaign, we are not only setting a new benchmark in coating innovation but also empowering children everywhere to enjoy childhood to the fullest, because lack of clear vision should never stand in their way.”
