HOYA Vision Care Supports The World Society of Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus to Address the Growing Issue of Myopia

Collaboration will focus on awareness and education of myopia management

 

BANGKOK – 14 Nov. 2022 – HOYA Vision Care, a leader in optical technology innovation, is proud to support an independent medical education program with The World Society of Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (WSPOS), which will focus on enhancing awareness about myopia and the importance of early treatment, contribute to improved standards of care in myopia management and inform and educate eye doctors and eye care professionals (ECPs) as well as parents about the rapid global increase of myopia in children, the impact on vision and evolving approaches to prevent, manage and treat paediatric myopia.

 

HOYA recognizes the leading role paediatric ophthalmologists and WSPOS play to advance the standards of care for myopia globally. This collaboration is designed to expand the quantity and quality of education, highlighting all aspects of myopia and its’ management in children. This will be achieved by creating training content which will be shared on WSPOS’s platforms as well as on HOYA’s global ECP educational platform. Renowned ophthalmologist Dr. Ken Nischal, WSPOS Co-founder and Division Chief, Pediatric Ophthalmology, Strabismus, and Adult Motility Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine, will lead worldwide faculty of WSPOS leadership in the project to share the latest practices and approaches to myopia management in children. Overall objectives of the independent medical education program include:

 

  • Raising awareness about the escalating global increase of myopia in children including underlying causes and impact on the quality of life
  • Sharing current and evolving paediatric myopia treatment protocols to slow the progression of myopia
  • Defining strategies to successfully integrate myopia management including patient education, early intervention, and patient outcome goals

The education program will be launched with a four-hour virtual, live program on November 19 and 20, at 2-4pm GMT. Eye care practitioners can register for the program here. Additional programs to follow include a series of three video interviews, three podcasts, supplement and webinars in early 2023.
