Immersive program connected future eye care professionals with the technology, craftsmanship, and people behind HOYA lenses
LEWISVILLE, Texas, August 5, 2026 – HOYA Vision Care, a global leader in optical technology, recently hosted 19 third-year optometry students from the Northeastern State University (NSU) College of Optometry for a two-day technology seminar and laboratory tour at the company's U.S. headquarters in Lewisville, Texas, and its Dallas laboratory. The program was designed to give students a deeper understanding of HOYA's lens technologies and the people and processes behind them, as they prepare to enter clinical practice.
The event opened with a welcome dinner, giving students the opportunity to network directly with HOYA team members. The following day featured a full slate of educational sessions, covering practice ownership, leadership, patient care, and HOYA's approach to technology and innovation. Presenters from HOYA included Michael Gatti, Senior Manager of Professional Engagement; Kristen Langley, Senior Technical Education Manager; and Jordan Crowhurst, Technical Training Manager.

Dr. Kennard Herring, Founder and CEO of Nostalgic Eye Care, was also a featured speaker. “Sharing my private practice journey with these students was a privilege and an inspiration. By connecting the science and technology behind today’s lenses with the realities of running a practice, they gained valuable insights that will help them become confident clinicians and future leaders. Their enthusiasm leaves me excited about the impact they will make on patients and communities for years to come.”
The experience culminated with an extensive tour of HOYA’s Dallas laboratory, where students learned firsthand about the craftsmanship, technology, and expertise applied to every lens the company produces.
“Our mission to improve life through vision relies on strong partnerships with eye care professionals who serve patients every day, and that partnership begins before graduation with optometry schools like NSU,” said Steven Haifawi, Senior Vice President, U.S. Commercial, HOYA Vision Care. “Engaging students this way allows us to reinforce our broader commitment to education, professional development, and ultimately the future of the eye care profession.”
